Awareness means noticing, not controlling
Situational awareness means noticing what is happening around your assignment and recognizing when you need clarification. It does not mean you can personally control every exposure.
OSHA's waterfront summaries describe vehicles, falls, drowning, and material-handling incidents. Its longshoring definitions also identify danger-zone terminology within the regulation's scope.
Prepare by asking about today's authorized area, traffic routes, restricted places, and emergency reporting contact. Yesterday's orientation may not answer every question about changed work.
Educational orientation only: this guide cannot authorize entry, equipment operation, cargo handling, or emergency response. Employer training, approved procedures, manufacturer instructions, and site rules govern the assignment.
A useful observation separates a change you noticed from a conclusion you cannot support. Ask the responsible person rather than treating confidence as evidence.
